Holiday Pitch Competition

Are you a student with an innovative business idea? Our Holiday Pitch Competition was made for you!  Through this competition, you will receive the opportunity to win money to grow your idea, and meet potential mentors as well as like-minded peers to provide you the support you need through your entrepreneurial journey.

Date: December 4, 2018 

Time: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm 

Location: Saint Mary’s University, CLARI Space, Atrium 340 

Note: You do not need to have an operating business to participate, just an idea! Reach out to [email protected] if you have ANY questions.

Below are the requirements to participate in the Holiday Pitch Competition:

 

  • 2 minute presentation on your business idea
  • No more than two people presenting, you will not be given extra time with addition presenters
  • Enrolled in a Spark Zone Partner school (e.g. Saint Mary’s University, Nova Scotia Community College, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, King’s College, Mount Saint Vincent University, Atlantic School of Theology)
  • Complete the Holiday Pitch Competition registration form below

The awards available for this competition are listed below: 

First Place

Prize awarded:

  • Seed funding of $750 to support the development of your business
  • Free entry to the Starting Point Student Entrepreneurship Conference
  • Business cards (design and printing of 50 cards per team member)

Support provided:

  • Access to a free consulting session with Saint Mary’s Entrepreneurship Centre team
  • Access to the Saint Mary’s Entrepreneurship Centre’s professional network

 

Second Place

Prize awarded:

  • Seed funding of $500 to support the development of your business
  • Free entry to the Starting Point Student Entrepreneurship Conference
  • Business cards

Support provided:  

  • Access to a free consulting session with Saint Mary’s Entrepreneurship Centre team
  • Access to the Saint Mary’s Entrepreneurship Centre’s professional network

 

Third Place

In December 2018, we hosted our second annual Holiday Pitch Competition with ten amazing students, who shared their innovative business ideas. Three outstanding individuals walked away with the investment and support to move their business forward!

 

Here are our winners:

Charles Milton: Bursity 

Charles is a Nova Scotia Community College Student focused on Data Analytics.  Through his education, Charles has followed his passion of building a world that is data is driven, design is responsive, and interfaces are intuitive. His entrepreneurial spirit has led to the development of Bursity, a business focused on lowering hurdles to higher learning. Bursity will assist students and bring ease to accessing post secondary funding. Through the Holiday Pitch Competition Charles walked away with a $750 investment to build his idea.

 

 

Sataneeh Al Rousan: Opportunities for Refugee Business Settlement (ORBS)

Sataneeh is currently pursuing the Masters of Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Saint Mary’s University. She has had a vast amount of experience through the completion of a degree in Public Administration and Political Science. Through this Santaneeh has discovered her passion and applied to her business, Opportunities for Refugee Business Settlement. This business is working to create a support system for refugee is to build on their passion, and create a business. With the investment of $500 from the Holiday Pitch Competition, she will have the support and finances to grow her business.

 

 

Brianna Comeau: SMU Women’s Centre 

Brianna is a undergraduate student at Saint Mary’s University with a passion for entrepreneurship.  Brianna is working reduce the issue of affordability for menstrual products at Saint Mary’s University. With the investment of $250 from the Holiday Pitch Competition, this will empower Brianna to begin the pilot project across the University.
